Tate Liverpool is Hosting UK's First Major Keith Haring Retrospective
Tate Liverpool is gearing up for the first large UK exhibition devoted to the American artist Keith Haring. Born in rural Pennsylvania, Haring rose to fame as a graffiti artist after moving to NY, befriending icons such as Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Madonna and Grace Jones. Best known for his cartoonish figures and political undertones, Haring’s work examines issues he confronted within his tragically short life, from the 80’s Aids epidemic to the crack cocaine crisis that engulfed New York.
The gallery has announced that more than 85 works will be exhibited, including large drawings, paintings, printed flyers, posters, and video, all accompanied by a hip-hop soundtrack. The full retrospective at Tate Liverpool is set to open next year on June 14th and will close on November 2019.
