Sundance Winner Crystal Moselle Documents NY's All-Girl Skate Crew for Newest Project
Director Crystal Moselle has tapped a group of Lower East Side female skateboarders for her latest project, Skate Kitchen. The fictional documentary, which comes on the heels of her 2015 Sundance jury prize winning project The Wolfpack, gives each skater a character and fictional arc to play out, but allows each personality to naturally shine through.
The film follows the posse of diverse, tough and funny women as they fight for their space in traditionally male-centric skateparks. Reflecting the on the current discussions on gender and race, the film tackles these issues among individuals and society. Overall, Skate Kitchen is an expression of freedom documented within the limits of New York’s magic aura.
