Tom Blachford's Mysterious Captures of Tokyo are Inspired by 'Blade Runner'

Here to recreate the hyper-saturated, neon-lit, shadowy nights of your favorite neo-noir films is Melbourne-based photographer, Tom Blachford. Specifically if you're into the sci-fi classic known as Blade Runner, you're definitely going to dig the photo artist's latest imagery. In a series dubbed Nihon Noir, Blachford took on the streets of Tokyo to capture the seemingly impossible angles and viewpoints of the city's futuristic appeal. Despite the bustling nature of the urbanscape, Blachford manages to get intimate shots of the dense architecture, sans distractions.

Tokyo after dark is a sight to be seen. In collaboration with Asahi Beer Australia, Blachford set out to expose the peculiarities of the metropolis without all the image edits. "My goal for the series was to communicate the feeling that struck me the first time I visited Tokyo, that somehow you have been transported to this advanced and amazing parallel universe," explains Blachford. "I wanted to inject some mystery into the city and have the images be as confusing and mysterious as the place feels to me every time I visit." Scroll through the moody portraits of the cityscape below and check out Tom Blachford's website for other mystical works.
