Unearthing Supreme Brooklyn's Store Concept

Last October Williamsburg gained a new inhabitant on 152 Grand St, streetwear giant, Supreme. Lead by architects Neil Logan and Minji Kim, the 2,938 square-foot space is Supreme’s third retail store within the United States. A former delivery truck storage building, the storefront’s garage doors were retrofitted to feature a prominent brick façade and large fixed glass piece. Within the space, the architects embraced minimalism over an obvious design by eliminating distortions and allowing the large open expanse to fill with an abundance of natural light via multiple square skylights and an extensive mirror amplifying the interior view. Neil Logan Architect’s minimalist approach is matched with loose-plaster walls, existing timber joints, and low metal benches, which adds a gritty, industrial quality to the store’s overall aesthetic.

The centerpiece of the store is a free-standing skate-bowl, which divides the use of a private stock room and retail floor. The kidney-shaped bowl was designed by Steven Bladgett of the American art collective Simparch, and built entirely of Baltic birch plywood. The elevated installation is supported by a set of red poles, allowing for fitting rooms to be hosted beneath.
