Spanto Explores Catholic Iconography for BornxRaised's Fall 2018 Delivery
Community-oriented LA-based clothing brand BornxRaised has unveiled their latest collection. The brand, famous for founder Spanto’s combination of integrating cultural cues from his own background into the context of streetwear, takes on religious motifs for it’s Fall 2018 line. Embedded within the array of autumn-ready thermals, sweatsuit sets, and velours are Catholic iconography and Old English text.
“Immaculate Heart” is embroidered across hats, hoodies and tees, while graphics of lambs, crosses, roses and hearts are found throughout the cut-and-sew pieces. The lookbook, shot by Asato Iida in LA streets and Catholic schools, highlights the collection’s themes. Spanto’s uses his garments as a voice for his hometown of Venice, a community rapidly changing due to intense gentrification, and too often misappropriated by the fashion world. The new Fall delivery is available online and at select retailers like Union and KITH.
