Watch the Legend Michael Jordan go Sneaker Shopping Back in 1988
If there was ever one man who would be anointed to represent sneaker culture, that man would without a doubt be Michael Jordan. The Jordan Brand can be credited for having changed the entire landscape of sneaker culture, perhaps even having started it. Today, the sneaker culture has grown to the point of near-mainstream, with a myriad of influencers who proudly call themselves sneakerheads, countless sneaker review shows and blogs, most notably Complex's Sneaker Shopping series that has brought on everyone from Jim Jones (their first ever episode), to Action Bronson, Nick Young, Amber Rose, A$AP Rocky, DJ Khaled, Rick Ross, Bella Hadid, Usher, 21 Savage, Migos, Allen Iverson, Chris Rock, Blac Chyna, Neymar, Rita Ora, Roger Federer, Eric Koston and Usain Bolt to name but a few.
But while Complex with its current Sneaker Shipping host Joe La Puma have established themselves as the go-to for watching your favorite celeb cop their favorite kicks, the concept has been around for decades. In what can arguably be the most legendary "Sneaker Shopping" of all time, a video has surfaced (thanks to NBA history enthusiast Adam Ryan) that shows Michael Jordan shopping for sneakers at Nike's Portland facility and Nike at Liberty, back in 1988. The footage comes from the rare documentary Michael Jordan & Co, and sees the icon hitting the aisles to pick out his choice pieces. Keep in mind, this was film when Tinker Hatfield not only designed the Air Jordan 3, but when he also unveiled the new and current Jumpman Logo.
