Skater Magdalena Wosinska Captures the Raw Side of Diverse Female Identities (NSFW)
Just yesterday we got a glimpse of what's to come from photography duo Honey Long and Prue Stent at Los Angeles' Fahey/Klein Gallery exhibition, Future Feminine. While their work rendered as dreamlike and colorful with a keen focus on the female body, there is another artist from the show defying gender differences and challenging the narrow view of female identity named Magdalena Wosinska.
The Poland-born photographer moved to the United States (Arizona) at a young age and ended up in Southern California by 2004, capturing the skate and metal music subcultures she was involved in. As a passionate skater and photographer, she prefers to be in the moment when she shoots which translates into raw, authentic, against-the-grain photography. Most recently, the multifaceted talent created a series of bold and intimate imagery relating to her experience as a woman navigating her own life while warding off the hegemonic gaze of what it means to be female. Her adventurous photography severs the dichotomy between male and female and allows the viewer to see the two genders as distinct humans rather than as opposite forms of beings. Peep some of what's to come from Wosinska below and make sure to check out Future Feminine sometime between January 18 and February 24 for a full viewing.
