If you're unfamiliar with North Korea's Air Koryo, it is the country's airline that travels to only two destinations, China and Russia's Vladivostok, due to the strict international sanctions and environmental restrictions put upon it. With the amount of behind-the-boarder documentaries that showcase the time capsule-esque aesthetics of the country, one can easily imagine Air Koryo to carry its fair share of yesteryear design and specific regiments unique to North Korea. "variety stage performances of North Korean musical bands, complete with a backdrop of military maneuvers," explains Dutch photographer Arthur Mebius, who conducted this incredible beautiful photo series and book that delves into the airline and its staff, aptly entitled Dear Sky.

Looking through his images, you're confirmed with the retro-look assumption, especially when you focus on the Soviet-era planes that you can easily see Ronald Reagan sitting in. Aside from aesthetics, Mebius' images, and his own experience shooting the series, also highlights the people behind the airline. "I was simply struck by the love for flying. My intention was to picture the dedication of the crews I saw there and tell the story of the people and their planes," he adds.
