We’ve been fans of Ari Marcopoulos and his work for a good minute now, so to hear that there’s new material coming from the iconic skate/street photographer, and more than that, we get to watch him doing what he does best, we jumped at the chance to share the good news with all of you. The content comes in thanks to adidas Skateboarding, who teamed up with Marcopoulos as he went about NYC to capture legendary skater Mark Gonzales, and one of today’s best young skaters Tyshawn Jones–both of who are adidas Skateboarding ambassadors.
The idea came from celebrating the core skate scene in New York in the ’90s, but translating that spirit to now.
The video itself is an artistic behind-the-scenes presentation of the collaborative project at work, which will result in a. exclusive zine and limited edition collaborative collection. According to Marcopoulos himself on the inspiration behind the project, he states in an interview with i-D magazine that “the idea came from celebrating the core skate scene in New York in the ’90s, but translating that spirit to now.”
The zine, which has been dubbed “AIGHT,” will comes as a 26-page publication featuring the photographers work shot on black and white film that shows the aforementioned skaters shred through the sun-soaked streets of NYC during this winter. The accompanying collection will include both footwear and apparel. As we look forward to the official release of the projects to come, enjoy a glimpse at how it all went down in the video above, as well as a few photography excerpts throughout. And when you’re good and ready, head here to read i-D Magazine’s exclusive interview with Marcopoulos himself on the campaign.
