While the popular neon-drenched visuals of Signe Pierce have floated amongst social media for ages and have even graced our website in previous accounts, we have developed a particular fondness to the multimedia artist’s latest selfie imagery. Known for her highly saturated photo creations, we are becoming more and more interested in Pierce as a creative being and human. Through multi-colored visuals taken of herself, both Pierce’s internal vibrancy and recognition of the technologically-altered reality we live in today become increasingly evident.

Sometimes captured in the act of taking seductive selfies and other times posing in the luminous streets of Manhattan’s Chinatown, Pierce’s self portraiture sheds light (both literally and figuratively) on the idea of media-based self portrayal. Using herself as a muse, the real life artist interacts with artificial light amidst the night while digitally curating personalized photographs. These intentional factors blended together allow us to witness the artist come alive in her own work while simultaneously viewing a fabricated image of the photo taker. Photos from a selfie installation dubbed Total Parallaxxx¬†are exemplary of this concept and can be discovered¬†below. Click on the featured image to gain insight into Pierce’s creative strategy behind the shoot and visit her Tumblr for more glowing self depictions and gifs. In another project starring the artist dubbed AMERICAN REFLEXXX, Pierce (dressed in a reflective mask, high heels, and tight dress) struts along Mrtyle Beach in South Carolina. While the resulting reactions are shockingly violent, see another way the crafty performer showcases reality in the bottom video.
