“What kind of life is splashing around in the waves and saying weee-eee.” The kind of life many of us would absolutely love to live, but sadly do not. For blossoming teen surfer Kai Hing, that life is very much a reality, clearly seen in the above footage that showcases the 19-year-old having a good ol splash about in Mother Nature’s swimming pool. Aptly titled SPLASHING, the mini-featurette shot by Shane Fletcher serves a good presentation of not only the fun that comes with playing in the sun, but also the talent—one that should be recognized—of the young pro.
Clearly in his element, Kai Hing is a surfer that we’re sure we’ll be hearing of a lot more in time to come.
While we’ve been seeing a lot of formidable surf bits—which you can check out for yourself here—this one is definitely worth the highlight. The video does a god job of blending a chockfull of stellar surf moves, from solid airs, to spitting out of tubes, hot-knife-on-butter turns and a good bit of a backside hanger, with some poetic and artistic edits to add to the whole punk-like rawness; something both the video and Kai Hing has in common.
Clearly in his element, Kai Hing is a surfer that we’re sure we’ll be hearing of a lot more in time to come. While still young and yet to garner a lengthy resume, this edit, which pulls from a collection of side-footage taken throughout this year, is a damn good way to start. Set to the fitting track “Hammertime” by Australian punk band Low Life, enjoy the splashing about of Kai Hing in the vid above the jump, and head here to see more from the filmmaker Shane Fletcher.
