Singer Anne Dereaux Lives in a Boarderless Creative World

“Wearing many hats,” a “Jack or Jill of all trades,” “multi-talented,” we’re used to hearing this description more so today than ever before. Having a range of skills seems to be all the range with your creatives now-a-days, whereas the older generations were more used to sticking to the one. But here’s another saying for you: “adapt or perish.” Or how about “change is the only constant.” Anyway, you get our point. If not, what we’re trying to say is that in today’s working landscape, you’ll do just fine being skilled at many different things, and singer/songwriter (among many other titled which you’ll find out in a minute) Anne Dereaux is living proof of that.

Sure we can describe her hauntingly alluring sound as a little bit FKA Twigs with a little bit of BANKS, but we’re not going to do that.

To backtrack, Dereaux started off as a model, as well as an architect at the same time we started exploring the music realm, coming in as one half of pop duo Dead Right. While the group was relatively short lives, their hit single “Rising Tide” gained solid traction with features on a number of romantic comedies and even a Coors commercial. This was were the beautifully talented artist cut her teeth as a musician, and from the split came the blossoming solo artist we see before us. But to side step a moment before exploring her new sound, there’s still more to tell about Dereaux’s affinity for different facets of creativity.

While music takes presidence over what she does now, you’ll also find Dereaux on-screen for the Season 1 finale of HBO’s Big Little Lies, where she acts alongside Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Zoë Kravitz and Adam Scott. So there’s acting ticked off the list. So with all that said, it is her music–which she both writes and performs–that we’d like to share with you. Above you’ll find her debut music video for her first single “mo(u)rning,” off of her upcoming EP Book of Lolita. Sure we can describe her hauntingly alluring sound as a little bit FKA Twigs with a little bit of BANKS, but we’re not going to do that. Instead, we’d rather you make up your own idea on what she sounds like. So without further adieu, enjoy the music video above, and be sure to check her Soundcloud page on the regular for more to come.
