R&B/Rapper Yung Pinch Breaks The Mold For Huntington Beach, California

We first discovered Yung Pinch when we were coasting through Soundcloud for our Unrated’s Undiscovered playlist 003, and knew we were on to sounds that stood unique from the sea of hip hop acts working their way up. It was only after that fact that we then discovered that the young crooner has actually opened for a formidable roster of hip hop acts, which include the likes of Bone Thug-N-Harmony, Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert, Ty Dolla $ign, Nate Dogg, Playboi Carti and Nipsey Hussle to name a few.

So, I guess we’re somewhat late to discovering the homie. Either way, we decided to feature him in our latest Breaking Sounds series in hopes that we can help garner more attention, of which we feel he deserves.

While Pinch brings on the current sounds of hip hop that blends elements of R&B and Trap, the flow, the lyrics that he spills and the unmistakable aesthetic to his sound is what caught our attention from the get go—he’s been on repeat on the regular since. Looking through what the man is about and you’ll discover that he reps his hometown of Huntington Beach, California—or as they put it, “Bluntington Beach” or “714.”

People think they know me because I’m from HB or something else but there’s so much more to my story than meets the eye.

By that, it’s easy to assume that he comes with surf sensibilities, and with that long blonde hair, he’s not helping himself from wanting to steer clear of that stereotype. The truth is, while mellow AF and perfect for beach-side listening, Pinch is far from your surfer boy.

“It was different for me, I grew up with my grandparents because both my parents did drugs since I was a kid, they were in and out of jail,” Pinch tells OC Weekly about his upbringing in a seemingly picture-perfect place—the reality being far from. Repping the truth of who he is hard in his tracks, Yung Pinch brings a side of HB often unheard.

With his debut album 714ever, having just released last week, and slew of others on his Soundcloud page, there’s plenty to go through to enjoy the smooth, wavy offerings. Peep his official SC page here, and make sure you keep tabs as we’re sure we’ll be hearing more from Yung Pinch soon to come.
