Although the current landscape of our creative culture is seeing fashion permeating more and more into other facets, from music (perhaps the most storied), to art to even sports. Take football for example—or soccer as they like to say in the States. From Nike to skate brand Palace to even David Beckham’s campaign choices, the soccer aesthetic is undoubtedly making waves throughout fashion.

So when you hear about retired soccer players banding together to create their own fashion brand, you immediately conjure up ideas of clean, athletic-inspired silhouettes with Jersey-inspired designs. You couldn’t be more wrong for ex-professional soccer players Atsuhiko Mori and Keiji Ishizuka and their co-founded label WACKO MARIA—the brand that other brands are talking about.

Based out of Japan, WACKO MARIA can be easily summed up as a brand that’s seamlessly blending elements of American heritage with streetwear—dare we say visvim meets BornxRaised with some Supreme thrown in the mix. And it seems like we’re not the only ones making comparisons to a similar string of brands, as there has been mention of Fuct, WTAPS and Neighborhood. But while you can certainly point out a slew of branded influences when looking through designer Atsuhiko Mori’s efforts, WACKO MARIA just as much offers its own take on it all. As for what truly inspires the brand’s designs, “friends, movies, music, wine, women,” Ishizuka exclaims.

You’ll see the brand in most well-curated fashion imprints: Canada’s HAVEN, Kinfolk NYC, Union LA, and of course Japan’s Paradise Tokyo.

The brand’s range of products is just as diverse as the aforementioned brand influences; hitting seasons for releases, you’ll often find on offer a solid array basics through to outerwear and then some. As for where you can find these items for yourself, you’ll see the brand in most well-curated fashion imprints: Canada’s HAVEN, Kinfolk NYC, Union LA, and of course Japan’s Paradise Tokyo, the brand’s flagship store.
