Illustrator Jeremyville Encourages Mindfulness and Compassion in Ongoing Project, ‘Community Service Announcements’
- Erica Iannitti
American artist Jeremyville, named one of the “100 best illustrators in the world” by The New York Times, has a style that’s instantly recognizable and helms a project that truly has a worldwide reach. This project is Jeremyville’s Community Service Announcements, a series born on the streets of New York that’s since spread all the way to Hong Kong, Paris and beyond. The illustrations that make up the Community Service Announcements all follow the same format: graphically simple cartoons, erring on the cutesy side, accompanied by a short message promoting personal and social change.
His work has been exhibited across the US, Spain, France, and Italy, and he’s worked with brands from Colette and Converse all the way to Mercedez Benz. His CSA messages are pasted up on walls around the world in a sort of grassroots movement encouraging integrity, mindfulness, and compassion towards ourselves and each other. On his site, Jeremyville writes, “the aim is hopefully to connect with people, and to provide a moment of stillness during our fast paced lives… I want each message to be a quiet moment in our day, a simple message to relate with, or feel good about, and make life a bit happier…” Who can argue with him?
