Legendary filmmaker, Sir Ridley Scott, has gone to work for the next chapter to the storied Alien franchise. Titled Alien: Covenant, the next chapter joins the crew aboard the ship Covenant as they venture off to an uninhabited planet in hopes to explore and colonize the uncharted territory. Only, the planet is far from unsettled, and rather contains xenomorphs of a whole new breed. The added creatures are just as terrifyingly awesome as those seen in the original Alien—H.R. Giger would be proud.
Scott has since embraced the connection and has linked the upcoming Alien movie as the sequel to Prometheus.
Scott’s 2012 film Prometheus was long described as a precursor to the Alien series, to which the filmmaker initially refuted. However, Scott has since embraced the connection and has linked the upcoming Alien movie as the sequel to Prometheus. Alien: Covenant features the return of actor Michael Fassbender as he plays two roles in the film—one of which is the android David from the Prometheus film. Covenant also brings along the new addition of Katherine Waterson, who plays Daniels, an alien slayer who is somewhat of an ode to Ellen Ripley of the original film.
The upcoming Covenant movie looks as gorgeous as it is terrifying and encapsulates everything we’ve come to love about Sir Ridley Scott’s iconic brand of filmmaking. Stay tuned for more advances in the series, as Alien: Covenant is set to release on May 19, 2017.
