Barbara Kruger to Bring Her In-Your-Face Art to Performa Biennial’s 2017 Festival in NYC
We just introduced Barbara Kruger’s upcoming show at Sprüth Magers’ main gallery in Berlin, but like a true legend, the iconic visual artist is on her worldwide work grind. Invited to take on the Skate Park in New York City’s Lower East Side along with a billboard visual in Chelsea and decorated traveling school bus for this year’s Performa Biennial, Kruger will work her magic with three different artistic offerings. (Well, technically four since the all-star creative also teamed up with Performa for their 2017 event branding shown below.)
With a bold style interwoven with socially and politically related messages, Kruger’s artwork seems to align impeccably with Perfoma’s mission for this year’s performative art showcase. The contemporary art platform announced this about their upcoming festival efforts: “The resulting commissions and scholarship examine immediate and critical concerns confronting our urban centers, the shifting political and cultural currents of our turbulent world today, and ultimately the role of the arts and of artists in supporting afflicted communities.” What will be up Kruger’s sleeve this time around? Be on the lookout for ticket sales this month for Performa’s 7th edition festival to find out. The public art event will span from November 1st to 19th.
